I’m all about color! We stay together like white on rice and why not. After years of a strict black and white dress code in college (law undergraduate) , I went on a color binge and have yet to look back. I like to think that wearing a pop of color adds a nice touch to any outfit. It takes an outfit from a 9 to a 10 in my books and it’s an instant pick me up especially on dark or gloomy fall/winter days.
With that in mind, I also believe that too much of a good thing can often turn sour. I love colors of all shades and hues but at the same time, I believe in maintaining some balance.
For the outfit I’m wearing in today’s post, I chose a green dress and paired it with a blue sweater, yellow shoes and this onyx handcrafted necklace, a new arrival to our online store
Now my initial thought was to pair the green dress with an orange blazer and yellow shoes. I loved the look but hubby thought my shoes with that dress and my orange blazer took my outfit to crazy town. We all need a voice of reason and he is mine lol.
So I took it back to the basics, remember the color wheel we all learnt in elementary/primary school, that knowledge definitely came in handy when putting this look together.
Now I know there is a lot of hoo haa about no rules in fashion and I say have at it but for those who need a little direction/help once in a while, go back to your roots.
The three basic primary colors are yellow, red, and blue. In theory, you can mix absolutely any color from this initial set.
When you mix any two primary colors, you get the secondary colors:
- yellow and blue produce green,
- blue and red produce purple
- red and yellow produce orange
And therein lay the answer to my wardrobe dilemma,
green dress + blue sweater + yellow shoes = fabulous :)

I kept my lipstick dark to keep the focus on my outfit.
Doesn't this look like a painting. I love the way the sky is reflected in my shades
I like to use the color wheel when I’m unsure about my choice of colors and it never lets me down!
What color choices will you be making this season?
